Douglas Smith has served as a community educator in various capacities for over 10 years. Serving in South Central and the Antelope Valley, he engaged underserved youth and their families with resources, opportunities and tools that promote upward social mobility. Douglas graduated from Humboldt State in 2015 with a Bachelors of Arts in International Studies with a focus on Development. He spent time studying the intersection of history, economics, politics, and culture in Santiago, Chile; the focus of his academic courses and time abroad serve as a framework through which he analyzes relationships between institutions and marginalized people. In 2018 Douglas became a Master Gardener in Los Angeles County; a passion he discovered while working on local educational farms in Arcata as an undergrad. He returns to Humboldt State to facilitate community centered environments and opportunities that stimulate learning and academic engagement.
